At a time when migration is being criminalized, when migrant families are being dehumanized, when worker protections are being weakened and workers themselves are being attacked, I find hope in the thousands of people who are standing up for freedom, fairness and justice.
This #GivingTuesday I want to share with you a video that showcases the Migrant Defense Committee, a group of over 100 current and former migrant worker leaders and their families who, for the past 19 years, have led the fight against abuse and exploitation in guestworker programs. They worked picking crab, harvesting tomatoes, and operating fair rides. Now they fight for a world where no worker will be forced to experience the abuse they faced.
They are the joy and the strength behind our movement. Every day we’re inspired by their commitment to build a world where migrant workers’ rights are respected and where laws and policies reflect their voices. I hope you’ll be inspired as well to support their fight for justice.
