Today, we’re celebrating our 15th anniversary – a decade-and-a-half of community organizing, groundbreaking advocacy, and legal victories alongside migrant workers.
The last 15 years have been nothing short of incredible. When I founded CDM in 2005, we were a small but powerful team in Zacatecas. Now, CDM’s mighty 20-person team works across the US and Mexico. Thanks to allies and supporters like you, we’ve removed barriers to justice for tens of thousands of workers along our journey.
We’ll be commemorating this special moment in our history all year long, dedicating our anniversary month to migrant worker women. During September, we’re planning an array of celebrations to honor their victories, struggles and power:
We’re announcing the first-ever Elizabeth Mauldin Memorial Advocate for Migrant Women (EMMA). Thanks to your generous support, we’ve created the EMMA to discover and empower an emerging leader to elevate the voices of migrant worker women and fulfill Elizabeth Mauldin’s legacy. We’re looking forward to you meeting the inaugural advocate in a few days — during Elizabeth’s birthday week.
CDM will be hosting the second Future of [Guest]Work: Women Building Gender Equity in Labor Migration this weekend. This year, we will reconvene guestworker women across industries and allies with three (virtual) days of strategizing, alliance-building, and collective action. Follow us on social media to get real-time updates!
In a few weeks, we’ll be releasing a report detailing the conditions faced by migrant worker women, examining their organizing efforts and challenges. We can’t share more details just yet, but we can’t wait to share it with you.
We’re kicking off our series of 15 anniversary Cenas at the end of the month with a group of Baltimore supporters. The Cena will spotlight our Proyecto de Mujeres Migrantes (Migrant Women’s Project or “ProMuMi”). Are you interested in hosting an event of your own? Please get in touch with us — we’d love to support you in organizing a Cena.
This myriad of celebrations serves as a testament to victories of migrant worker women — and a preview of the future we’re building together. Our month-long anniversary marks a renewed commitment to elevating the voices and experiences of migrant worker women and fighting by their side.
