Every day, our team proudly stands with migrant worker women by supporting them to exercise and advance their rights. Many women have transformed their experiences of abuse, discrimination, and injustice into stories of resilience and change. Their leadership inspires others to learn about their rights and organize to improve their working conditions.
From mobilizing their coworkers and taking legal action to advocating for fair policies, migrant worker women are building power. And today, on International Women’s Day, we’re honoring their fight.
CDM workshop with crabworkers from Tabasco, Mexico
Time and time again, we’ve seen how providing rights information in workers’ home communities is a critical step for migrant worker women to exercise their rights at their workplaces in the US. Recently, CDM’s outreach team headed to Tabasco and Nayarit, home to many longtime Migrant Defense Committee (Comité) members and hundreds of other migrant worker women who travel to the US to work in the seafood industry each year.. We reached nearly 300 workers through workshops and one-on-one conversations focused on health and workers’ rights as well as leadership development.
We’re proud to support women across borders in fighting for dignity, equity and safety. Our month-long campaign for Women’s History Month is just starting. Throughout the month, we’ll be highlighting how migrant worker women are taking action and standing up for justice. Stay tuned for updates from our trainings and strategy sessions with migrant worker women in Hidalgo and San Luis Potosi.
